Rivers Assembly Backs Tinubu’s State of Emergency, Blames Fubara for Crisis

The Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the oil-rich state.

Speaker Martin Amaewhule affirmed the assembly’s endorsement in a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing that lawmakers will comply with Tinubu’s decision while blaming Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the ongoing crisis.

According to Amaewhule, the state of emergency was not what they had hoped for, but he acknowledged that the president acted in the best interest of the country.

The statement reads: **“We assure our constituents that we will abide by this declaration, even though it is not what we prayed for. Mr. President has acted in the best interest of the country.

“The condition of our dear Rivers State today is mainly because of the malfeasance of the governor, who serially disobeyed court judgments and obstructed the Rivers State House of Assembly.”**

President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, suspending Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state assembly.

Citing political turmoil as the reason for his decision, Tinubu appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, as the sole administrator to restore stability.

The state of emergency is expected to last six months.
