Manchester United is set to appoint Ruben Amorim as its new manager after reaching an agreement with Sporting Lisbon.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager will remain with Sporting for their next three games, including a Champions League match against Manchester City, before joining United during the November international break.
Amorim’s first game in charge is scheduled to be United’s away trip to Ipswich on November 24. To secure his early release, Manchester United paid Sporting an additional €1 million on top of his €10 million exit clause.
This development follows Erik ten Hag’s departure after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham left United 14th in the Premier League. Despite significant summer transfers, Ten Hag paid the price for United’s poor start to the season, with only one win in eight games prior to their 5-2 League Cup victory over Leicester under caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Van Nistelrooy stated, “I’m helping as long as I’m needed and will assist the club in building towards the future.” Amorim’s appointment aims to revitalize United’s season and restore the team’s competitive edge.
