Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, over an alleged misrepresentation of facts.

The suspension was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by Gboyega Akosile, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

The statement explained that Ajetunmobi’s suspension followed his controversial post on his personal ‘X’ account regarding a past incident. The Governor emphasized that his administration strongly opposes extrajudicial punishment and would never condone such actions, stating, “That is not who we are. That is not our way.”

The “misrepresentation of facts” referred to in the statement pertains to Ajetunmobi’s claim that the majority of individuals involved in the burning of Television Continental (TVC) during the #EndSARS protests in 2020 had been tracked down and executed. He had written: “The full story of people who burnt down TVC in 2020 will be told one day, with gory clips and images. One thing to note: majority of them have been hunted down and executed.”

When an X user questioned whether he was endorsing extrajudicial killings, Ajetunmobi defended his statement, saying, “Lol. You want to create a narrative in your head? Some of the people were chased by soldiers and exchange of fire occurred. Then arsonists were overpowered and killed. Others ran away. Is that extrajudicial killing to you?”
