Jeff Baena, an American screenwriter and film director, has passed away at the age of 47. He died by suicide at his Los Angeles-area home on the morning of Friday, January 3.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Baena’s assistant discovered his body around 10:30 a.m. local time. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baena, originally from Miami, attended film school at New York University before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. Throughout his career, Baena directed and contributed to more than a dozen films. He was also married to actress Aubrey Plaza.
