Jamaican-American singer, Sean Kingston and his 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, were arrested following a raid at his rented Florida mansion on Thursday, May 23.
According to warrants released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on Friday, May 24, Kingston and his mother collaborated to systematically defraud businesses and now face multiple counts of grand theft and fraud.
Turner was arrested during the raid in Florida, while her son was taken into custody in Fort Irwin, southern California, on fraud and theft charges based on a Florida warrant.
Authorities reportedly filled U-Haul trucks with items and towed away at least one car parked in the driveway during the raid.
From October 2023 to March of this year, Kingston, his mother, and others “known and unknown” allegedly obtained items worth over $100,000 from businesses including Mazal Jewelry Inc., Maree Inc., Ocean Auto Club, and Expimled FL under false pretences, according to the warrants.
The items included over $80,000 worth of furniture, a Cadillac Escalade, and jewelry valued at over $400,000.
Earlier this month, Turner was sued by Curran Living Trust for $100,000 in unpaid rent, according to Broward County court documents obtained by USA Today.
Kingston is also facing legal trouble from Ver Ver Entertainment, which sued him for breach of contract and fraud in February for allegedly failing to pay for a 232-inch TV and premium sound system.
Court documents reveal that the company claims Kingston used his celebrity status, particularly his connection to Justin Bieber, to negotiate the price. They are seeking $30,000 and attorney fees in a jury trial.
