The Nigerian Senate has established an 18-member committee to oversee the work of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this in yesterday’s plenary session, stating that the board will assist in ensuring transparency and accountability in the administration of Rivers State.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele will preside over the committee, made up of prominent senators from states. The committee has a mandate to ensure effective legislative oversight and propagate democratic values within Rivers State.

“The committee can now start its oversight functions in Rivers,” Akpabio stated, pointing to the urgency of the assignment. He also hinted that the membership of the committee might be re-visited after more consultations.
