The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has launched an urgent manhunt after seven inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State. The escape occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 20, following a torrential downpour that caused a structural failure in the facility’s perimeter wall.

According to NCoS spokesperson Umar Abubakar, the breach happened around 2 a.m. due to the heavy rainfall, which weakened the prison’s security infrastructure. The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape and has assured the public that all necessary resources are being deployed to recapture the fugitives.

The NCoS is working closely with sister security agencies and community leaders to track down the escapees and return them to custody. Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that may aid in the recapture efforts.
