Skepta Sets Release Date for Debut as Film Director

British-Nigerian rapper Skepta has unveiled the premiere date for his inaugural venture into film direction.

Skepta revealed that his movie, “Tribal Mark”, is scheduled to debut on January 26 at Everyman Cinema.

Produced by Skepta‘s production company, 1PLUS1, in collaboration with Dwight Okechukwu, the film narrates the poignant journey of a Nigerian immigrant acclimating to life in a foreign land.

The storyline also explores the narrative of an undercover Black Secret Service. Featuring a diverse ensemble of emerging Black actors, the film stars Jude Carmichael in the lead role of Young Mark.

In addition to marking his directorial debut, the rapper has announced his return to music with the release of his first single, ‘Gas Me Up’, on the same day as the ‘Tribal Mark’ movie.

The single is part of his upcoming studio album, ‘Knife and Fork’, which has already generated online controversy before its launch, leading Skepta to apologize and remove the artwork for his new single ‘Gas Me Up (Diligent)’ amid allegations of referencing the Holocaust.
