South Africa’s Ramaphosa describes Johannesburg fire as ‘Great Tragedy’

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent his condolences to the families of more than 70 people who were killed in a building fire in Johannesburg.

Ramaphosa while addressing an event in the southern city of Gqeberha, said “This is a great tragedy, felt by families whose loved ones perished in this terrible manner and our hearts go out to every person who is affected by this disaster.” 

The fire incident broke out at a 5-story building beings used by migrants in central Johannesburg. 73 people have so far died, with 52 people injured.

The injured victims have been transported to various healthcare facilities for further medical care.
