Speed Darlington Regains Freedom After Two Months In Detention Over Burna Boy Controversy

Nigerian entertainer Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington (Akpi), has been released after spending two months in detention.

The news was confirmed by his lawyer, Stan Alieke, who shared a photo of Speed Darlington in his office.

“Delighted to announce that our client, Mr. Darlington Achakpo, aka Speed Darlington (Akpi), has regained his freedom after two months of illegal incarceration,” Alieke wrote.

The lawyer revealed that the detention stemmed from a feud involving Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy. Speed Darlington was accused of defamation and public incitement after making controversial remarks about Burna Boy during a live broadcast, which sparked outrage and led to his arrest.

Stan Alieke emphasized that their legal team would explore all avenues to seek justice for the violation of Speed Darlington’s fundamental human rights, which they claim were infringed upon by the Nigerian Police Force.

The statement also extended gratitude to legal colleagues, including Marshal Abubakar Esq., Barr. Deji Adeyanju, Barr. Hamza Nuh, and Barr. David, for their support in securing his release.

Speed Darlington expressed appreciation to his fans and supporters, while his lawyer concluded the announcement with a powerful message: “Freedom cometh by struggle.”
