Spotify has unveiled the top five most streamed podcasts in Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya for 2024.
In a statement on Thursday, Spotify’s Sub-Saharan Africa Podcast Manager, Ncebakazi Manzi, revealed that “Apostle Femi Lazarus” retained its spot as the most streamed podcast in Nigeria. Others in Nigeria’s top five included “Motivation Daily by Motiversity,” “Success Addicted Podcast,” “Apostle Joshua Selman,” and “The HonestBunch Podcast.”
South Africa’s top podcasts were “The Joe Rogan Experience,” “The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett,” “What Now? With Trevor Noah,” “Motivation Daily by Motivarsity,” and “Podcast and Chill with MacG.”
In Kenya, the top five included “The 97sPodcast,” “So This Is Love,” “The Mkurugenzi Podcast,” “Mic Cheque Podcast,” and “The Sandwich Podcast.”
Manzi noted that podcasts remain a favorite medium for storytelling in Africa, with nearly four billion minutes of podcast audio streamed in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2024. South Africa led with over two billion minutes, while Nigeria accounted for 700 million minutes and produced half of the region’s new shows.
She highlighted the popularity of motivational and spiritual content across the continent. Shows like “The Diary of a CEO,” “Motivation Daily,” and “Success Addicted Podcast” resonated with audiences seeking advice on finances, relationships, and personal growth. Spiritual podcasts also remained strong, with “Christian Motivation” trending in South Africa and “Apostle Joshua Selman” dominating Nigeria’s charts.
Despite spirituality’s dominance, conversational podcasts such as “I Said What I Said” and “The HonestBunch Podcast” continued to gain traction, reflecting listeners’ preference for diverse content.
