Popular actress Stella Damasus has disclosed that her family name was originally Ojukwu before it was changed during the Nigerian Civil War.

In a video interview with media personality Ebuka Obi Uchendu, Damasus explained that her family made the change to avoid being targeted by Nigerian soldiers.

She shared that during the war, the name Ojukwu was closely associated with the Biafran general, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, and people with that surname were often attacked. “My family name was Ojukwu but it was changed to Damasus during the civil war to avoid being attacked by Nigerian soldiers…” she revealed.
