Rapper Stormzy, 31, has been banned from driving for nine months following a court case at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court. The musician, whose real name is Michael Ebenezer Owuo Jr, admitted to using a mobile phone while driving his £225,000 Rolls Royce Wraith in west Kensington in March 2024.

Initially pleading not guilty, Stormzy changed his plea to guilty via a letter submitted before the trial. The incident occurred on March 7, 2024, when an undercover officer spotted him on his phone and confronted him by knocking on the car’s tinted passenger window.

The court also heard about an earlier violation in October 2023, when Stormzy was caught driving his yellow Lamborghini Urus with illegally tinted windows in Kingston-upon-Thames. The vehicle’s front windows allowed only 4% light transmission, far below the legal limit of 70%.

Prosecutor Alice Holloway described the tinted windows as “dangerous” and a risk to vulnerable road users. District Judge Andrew Sweet criticized the rapper’s “dangerous and irresponsible” behavior, noting his poor driving record.

Stormzy, who was not present in court, has been ordered to pay a £2,010 fine within seven days. He now has 12 penalty points on his license, resulting in the nine-month driving ban. His lawyer, Peter Csemiczky, stated that Stormzy has since removed the illegal window tints and accepts full responsibility.

This legal setback follows a challenging year for Stormzy, including his recent split from Maya Jama.
