Student Dies After 164 Strokes of Cane

Allegations have surfaced regarding an incident at Obada Grammar School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, involving a student, Monday Ariyo. According to reports, Ariyo was allegedly asked to perform 162 frog jumps and received 24 lashes with a cane as punishment for breaking a dustbin.

The incident was shared by activist Adetoun on Instagram. As reported, the teacher had brought the dustbin to Ariyo’s class and instructed students not to break it. Ariyo’s response to the teacher was perceived as disrespectful.

The teacher reportedly sought disciplinary action from the principal, resulting in the alleged punishment. After collapsing, there was reportedly a delay in seeking medical attention for Ariyo. Unfortunately, Ariyo passed away after being taken to the hospital.
