The man accused of setting Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei on fire, resulting in her death, has also succumbed to his injuries.

Dickson Ndiema, Cheptegei’s ex-boyfriend, died from 30% burns at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya.

Ndiema had been charged with Cheptegei’s murder after allegedly dousing her with petrol and setting her alight during a dispute over land ownership. Cheptegei, 33, suffered 80% burns and passed away last week due to multiple organ failure.

The incident occurred on September 1 at Cheptegei’s home in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya, where neighbors reported hearing a loud argument before finding Cheptegei engulfed in flames. Despite efforts to save her, Cheptegei died on Wednesday night, and Ndiema’s death was confirmed by hospital officials on Thursday.
