A suspected internet fraudster, who allegedly killed an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during an arrest operation in Anambra, has been detained, according to TheCable.

An EFCC official revealed that the suspect opened fire on operatives during the operation on Friday, resulting in the death of one officer and injuring another. The slain officer was buried in Sokoto on Saturday, while the suspect is now in custody at the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu.

“The incident was very unfortunate. The officer has been buried in Sokoto, and the suspect is currently detained at our office in Enugu,” the source said.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale did not respond to calls or messages sent to his WhatsApp.

Anambra police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, stating that a suspect attacked EFCC operatives, killing one officer and leaving another seriously injured.

He added that police responded to a distress call on Friday in the Ifite area, arrested the suspect, and recovered a pump-action gun.

“Police operatives responded to a distress call at No. 1 Ekwutife Close, Ifite, and arrested a suspect while recovering a pump-action gun. The attack resulted in the death of one EFCC operative and serious injury to another,” Ikenga said.

He assured that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, with further updates to be provided.
