Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly left the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Sources revealed that Fubara vacated the premises on Wednesday morning, making way for the newly appointed Sole Administrator, retired Admiral Ekwe Ibas, to assume control.
A security official confirmed a complete overhaul of security personnel at the Government House.
âThe governor left this morning, and we are awaiting the new administratorâs arrival. Security arrangements have been reshuffled, but everything remains peaceful,â the source said.
Despite the political upheaval, Port Harcourt residents are carrying on with their daily activities, with no signs of unrest.
President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, citing pipeline vandalism and the failure of stakeholders to resolve the prolonged political crisis.
The emergency declaration followed reports that Governor Fubara and his family were allegedly held hostage at the Government House by heavily armed soldiers on Tuesday night.
Fubaraâs suspension is part of an ongoing power struggle with lawmakers aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike. President Tinubuâs directive to suspend all involved parties for six months, effective Tuesday, has sparked intense debate.
Many Nigerians are questioning whether the president has the constitutional authority to suspend an elected governor who has not been impeached.
