Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has expressed deep gratitude to his fans, teammates, and well-wishers following a life-saving emergency surgery. The 27-year-old forward suffered a ruptured intestine during Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 Premier League clash against Leicester City, leading to two critical surgeries and a medically induced coma.
In an emotional statement shared on social media, Awoniyi described this season as one of the most challenging of his career but emphasized his appreciation for the overwhelming support he has received.
“This season has been one of the most difficult of my career, but through it all, I have felt the love,” Awoniyi wrote. “With the grace of God, I am grateful to still be here, to still be fighting, to still be smiling, and to be in good spirits.”
Awoniyi extended his heartfelt thanks to his family, friends, and football fans, particularly those in Nigeria, for their prayers and encouragement during his recovery. He also acknowledged the unwavering support from his Nottingham Forest teammates, coaches, and staff, whose hospital visits lifted his spirits.
“To my teammates, coaches, staff, and the entire Forest family, thank you for your well wishes. Seeing you all on your visit to the hospital lifted my spirits more than words can say,” he added.
As Nottingham Forest approaches the final matches of the season, Awoniyi sent a message of encouragement to his teammates, urging them to keep believing and pushing forward.
