Nigerian singer Tems has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first female African artist to have a song with over 1 billion streams on Spotify. This feat was accomplished with her collaborative single “Wait For U” featuring Future and Drake.

The 2022 hit song, which samples Tems’ “Higher” from her 2020 EP “For Broken Ears”, has achieved numerous accolades. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, a first for an African artist. The song also received two Grammy nominations and won the award for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

This milestone adds to Tems’ growing list of achievements, including her second Grammy Award win for Best African Music Performance for her song “Love Me JeJe” at the 67th Grammys.
