Nigerian international star Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, has been honoured with the prestigious Breakthrough Award at the esteemed Billboard Women in Music Award 2024.

This announcement came through the official Instagram page of Billboard Charts on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

This recognition solidifies her growing impact in the global music scene, particularly since her breakthrough into the US industry with the chart-topping collaboration ‘Essence’ alongside Wizkid.

The Grammy-winning artist secured the accolade for Best Melodic Rap Performance with the track ‘Wait for U’, featuring Drake and Future.

Notably, Tems made history as the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the second Nigerian to achieve this remarkable feat.

The much-anticipated Billboard Women in Music Awards ceremony is scheduled at the YouTube Theatre on March 6, 2024.

Tems, celebrated for her hit ‘Me & U’, will grace the occasion to accept the Breakthrough Award, alongside other accomplished women in the music industry who are set to be honoured across various categories.
