Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, has recounted her challenging experience with the Nigerian police, calling it unforgettable.

In an interview with The Free Press, Badenoch alleged that officers of the Nigeria Police Force stole her brother’s watch and shoes. She described the encounter as deeply negative, contrasting it with her positive interactions with the British police after moving to the UK.

“Giving people a gun is just a license to intimidate,” she remarked, criticizing the behavior of Nigerian police officers. She also recalled, “The police in Nigeria will rob us,” highlighting systemic issues and a culture where theft is common.

Badenoch faced significant backlash from Nigerians, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who condemned her remarks as unfairly critical of the country.

In comparison, Badenoch praised the British police for their support during a burglary at her home in 2004, stating, “They were helpful before they eventually caught the person.”
