The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has accused the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration of harboring corrupt officials, referring to them as “Yahoo people.”

Obi made these remarks during his keynote address as a Guest Speaker at Nexford University’s 4th Graduation Ceremony. He expressed concern about the state of the nation, describing it as a “crime scene” where both government insiders and outsiders are engaged in systemic looting.

“When we talk about vices, don’t think it’s just the Yahoo boys. There are actually more Yahoo people in government than outside it. We’ve turned this country into a crime scene, where both those inside and outside government are stealing,” Obi said.

Speaking on the theme “Lead the Change; Ignite Your Future,” the former Anambra State Governor emphasized the need for leadership based on character, innovation, and commitment to change. He urged the youth to rise against the status quo, take action, and lead with integrity to shape a better future for the next generation.

“You have gained knowledge today. Use it to drive societal change. Your education equips you to help create a better environment in the society where you want to live,” he told the graduating students.

Obi criticized previous generations for failing to address the nation’s systemic issues, leaving the youth to bear the consequences. He stressed the pivotal role young Nigerians must play in transforming the country, urging them to leverage their education and skills to build a nation rooted in accountability, progress, and effective leadership.
