The former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has stated that he is aware of the individuals behind the investigation being conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into his alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion.
Okowa, who served two terms as governor, dismissed the allegations as baseless, politically motivated, and aimed at distorting the facts to suit certain agendas. Speaking from his residence in Asaba, he noted, “Politics is filled with challenges, but it is regrettable when unfounded accusations are made public.”
He further explained that the claim of misappropriating such a large sum would require taking N16 to N20 billion monthly for 96 months, describing the notion as not only unrealistic but a deliberate attempt to deceive the public.
“I am not afraid of any investigation and will not hinder the EFCC from doing its job. Unlike others who seek court orders to block investigations, I believe in transparency. However, the public deserves the truth, not the fabrications of certain individuals,” Okowa added.
