The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has announced that the major construction work on the Third Mainland Bridge has been completed, with lane marking set to conclude within the next seven days.

Umahi made this revelation during a comprehensive tour of key infrastructure projects in Lagos State, with a visit by members of the National Assembly, including the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Works, which served as a joint oversight function to inspect various ongoing projects in Lagos.

Recall that the Federal Government commenced extensive rehabilitation work on the bridge on January 9 due to numerous deteriorated sections. According to Umahi, only two remaining tasks need to be completed before the bridge can be officially reopened to the public.

“The final touches, including lane marking to delineate traffic flow, are expected to be finished within the next seven days. Additionally, the installation of solar-powered street lights will also be completed within the same timeframe. However, the completion of lane marking is pivotal, and once accomplished, we will unofficially open the bridge to traffic.”

Umahi further revealed that an official reopening ceremony would be held later, coinciding with the launch of the coastal road project, scheduled to coincide with the President’s forthcoming visit.
