Nigerian footballer Victor Boniface has condemned the unfair treatment of the Super Eagles in Libya, where the team was detained for nearly 13 hours at Al-Abaq Airport.

“Been at the airport for almost 13 hours… no food, no WiFi, no where to sleep. African, we can do better,” Boniface expressed on X.

The incident occurred on October 13, 2024, after Libyan authorities diverted the team’s chartered plane to a city over two hours away from Benghazi, their intended destination.

The delay allegedly stemmed from Libyan players’ complaints about their treatment during a recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Nigeria, which the Super Eagles won 1-0.

Boniface’s statement highlights the need for improved hospitality and respect among African nations during international competitions.
