A three-storey building in the Iriebe community of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State collapsed on Tuesday.

Obio-Akpor Local Government Area Chairman, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, confirmed the incident and ordered the immediate closure of the area.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Ihunwo expressed sadness over the incident and requested the building’s owner and site engineer to report to his office for questioning on Wednesday.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse, with focus on potential substandard materials used in construction.

The chairman will collaborate with the State Ministry of Urban Development to verify if official approval for the building plan was granted.
