As Nigeria prepares for the possibility of a military intervention in Niger republic, an old video has now gone viral, stating that NYSC Corps members might be drafted for war.

In April 2021, then Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, said corps members are part of the national Defence policy of Nigeria and can be mobilized for war if need be.

Ibrahim while speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme had made the disclosure while reacting to moves to scrap the NYSC scheme.

In his words, “Corps members are on reserve. They are part of the national defence policy of this country. So, where there is serious war, our corps members are educated, they are knowledgeable and they can be trained. You see the drill and so on”.

Details of the Director-General’s statement can be viewed from the 9th minute mark of the video below, where he explained in details the policy of NYSC corps members being part of the Armed Forces.
