Golfing legend Tiger Woods has announced the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods, on Tuesday. The heartbreaking news comes after Woods shared touching moments with her during his first two TGL appearances.
On January 14, during a match between his team, Jupiter Links GC, and Los Angeles Golf Club, cameras captured Kultida cheering from the crowd after Woods sank a putt on the fifth hole. Despite their 12-1 loss in the opener, Woods and his team were determined to bounce back in their next match against Rory McIlroyâs Boston Common Golf on January 27.
Before the game, Woods affectionately called out to his mother in the crowd, saying, âHey Mom, not gonna suck tonight, OK?â He later described her as his âbiggest fanâ in an emotional statement.
âShe Was My Greatest Supporterâ
Woods shared the sad news in a heartfelt statement on social media, writing:
âIt is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning.
âMy Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporterâwithout her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you, Mom.â
Golf Community Pays Tribute
The TGL, co-founded by Woods and McIlroy, extended its condolences, stating, âOur thoughts are with the Woods family. We extend our deepest condolences.â The United States Golf Association (USGA) also shared its support, saying, âWeâre so sorry for your loss, Tiger.â
Woodsâ loss has been met with an outpouring of sympathy from the golf world and beyond, as fans, friends, and fellow athletes rally behind him during this difficult time.
