President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun have all mourned the devastating explosion which occurred in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The explosion killed two persons and injured about 77 others, and destroyed several buildings, vehicles, and other properties.

The President in a statement, commiserated with the government and people of Oyo State and called on all concerned agencies of government to unravel the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

President Tinubu also directed NEMA to collaborate with Oyo State Government, and called for a thorough investigation into the incident, pledging support to rebuild the community.

“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished”.

Also, Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu in a statement described the incident as “disheartening”, saying that the people of Lagos State stand in solidarity with residents of Oyo.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed absolute confidence that the Oyo State government would ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were apprehended and prosecuted.
