Tiwa Savage has opened up about why she is reluctant to sign new artists to her record label, citing the overwhelming responsibility that comes with managing talent.

In a recent interview with Forbes Africa, the Water & Garri hitmaker explained that mentoring and guiding artists can be stressful, and she doesn’t feel she has the right “gift” for the role. Instead, she is exploring other ways to support emerging musicians.

One of her key initiatives is establishing a music school, where aspiring artists can develop their skills in a structured environment. Tiwa believes this approach will help nurture talent before they sign with record labels that can provide the necessary resources and support.

Tiwa Savage’s Direct Quotes:

“Everyone always says to me, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artiste, because artistes are stressful. I could just be sleeping, and then I will wake up and my artist is trending for something else.”

“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you.”

By focusing on education and artist development, Tiwa Savage hopes to create a lasting impact on the next generation of musicians.
