After a long wait, Nigerian music superstar and queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage, has officially returned with her most heartfelt project yet. The singer-songwriter released her brand-new album This One Is Personal on Friday, marking her first full-length project in five years.
The 16-track album is an intimate exploration of pain, growth, love, and resilience, a reflection of Savage’s journey both as an artist and as a woman. Speaking on social media, she described the record as a deeply vulnerable offering:
“This project is so close to my heart, and I poured every part of me into it. I just pray you receive it with the same love I created it with. Please cherish it, because #ThisOneIsPersonal.”
In an emotional Instagram Live session announcing the album, Tiwa made it clear that her motivation goes beyond competition or numbers.
“this is isn’t about competition, who has the best album of the year, this isn’t about stats, this is about me,” she said, encouraging fans and even non-fans to listen with an open mind.
The album was recorded across three major music cities; Nashville, London, and Lagos and delivers a refined Afrobeats sound that embraces global influences without losing its soulful core. Carefully curated collaborations include UK rapper Skepta on On the Low, rising Nigerian talent Taves on Addicted, and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter James Fauntleroy on Change.
During a fan Q&A on X, Tiwa explained the reasoning behind the limited but powerful features:
“I wanted you all to feel me in every song. The few features I chose were very intentional, with people who understood the vision and could add to the message without taking away from its intimacy. It’s less about numbers and more about connection.”
The album’s executive producers include Tiwatops Savage herself, Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, and MystroSugar, with A&R direction led by Kolawole Omoboriowo and Sak Pase.
More than just a music release, This One Is Personal is a statement of authenticity and self-expression, reminding fans why Tiwa Savage remains one of Afrobeats’ most influential voices.
