Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew has thrown his support behind Anthony Joshua, predicting a victory for the British heavyweight should he face Daniel Dubois in a rematch of their highly anticipated September 2024 bout. Speaking to First Round TV , Bellew expressed confidence in Joshua’s abilities, despite the latter’s devastating knockout loss to Dubois in their first encounter.

The initial clash between Joshua and Dubois was nothing short of explosive. Dubois seized control early, flooring Joshua with a thunderous knockdown at the end of the first round. The fight ultimately culminated in a decisive fifth-round knockout, handing Joshua one of the most significant defeats of his career. However, Bellew believes that Joshua has what it takes to turn the tables in a rematch—if he can get his mindset right.

“If they were to have a rematch, I’d favor Josh going in,” Bellew said. “He has better attributes than Daniel Dubois, but it’s all about the mindset. When you step into the ring, it’s not just physical; it’s mental. If Anthony can reset mentally and bring his A-game, I believe he can win.”

Bellew’s analysis highlights Joshua’s technical prowess and experience as key advantages over Dubois, whose raw power and aggression proved overwhelming in their first meeting. While Dubois showcased his status as one of Britain’s most formidable heavyweights, questions remain about his ability to adapt against a more composed and strategic opponent in a second fight.

For Joshua, the stakes couldn’t be higher. After suffering back-to-back losses in high-profile bouts against Oleksandr Usyk, the defeat to Dubois was another blow to his legacy. A rematch offers him a chance at redemption and an opportunity to reassert himself as a dominant force in the heavyweight division. However, as Bellew pointed out, success will hinge on Joshua’s ability to recalibrate both physically and mentally.

Dubois, on the other hand, is riding high after his emphatic victory. The Londoner has long been touted as a future star of the division, and a second win over Joshua would cement his status among the elite. Yet, rematches often bring new challenges, and Joshua’s determination to reclaim his throne could make for a compelling showdown.

As fans eagerly await confirmation of whether the rematch will materialize, one thing is certain: a second bout between Joshua and Dubois promises fireworks. Whether Joshua can heed Bellew’s advice and rise to the occasion remains to be seen—but if he does, it could mark the beginning of a remarkable comeback story.
