Senior officials from the Trump administration have provided an update on the ongoing trade negotiations with China, signaling substantial progress in discussions aimed at recalibrating economic relations between the two global powers.
President Donald Trump, who has been vocal about his administration’s efforts to level the playing field in international trade, took to social media to highlight the “great progress” made during the negotiations. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring fair trade practices and expanding opportunities for American businesses in China.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer met with Chinese counterparts in Geneva, Switzerland, over the weekend to discuss trade policies, tariffs, and market access. Bessent described the talks as “productive”, emphasizing that both sides are working toward a “total reset” in trade relations.
The Trump administration has previously imposed tariffs as high as 145% on Chinese imports, prompting retaliatory measures from Beijing. However, recent discussions have opened the door for potential adjustments to these tariffs, with officials hinting at a temporary easing of trade restrictions for a 90-day period
