President Donald Trump’s administration has dismissed Admiral Linda Fagan, the first woman to lead a U.S. military branch as head of the Coast Guard.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees the Coast Guard, has yet to comment on the decision.

Fox News, citing a senior official, reported that Fagan’s removal was linked to her handling of border security threats, a perceived overemphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and concerns over the Coast Guard’s approach to investigating sexual assault cases.

Trump, who has prioritized border security and criticized diversity-focused programs, declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border on Monday, marking the start of his new term.

“She served a long and distinguished career, and I thank her for her service to our nation,” said acting DHS Secretary Benjamine Huffman in a message to the Coast Guard.

Fagan, who had led the Coast Guard since 2022, previously served as the service’s vice commandant and held various leadership roles throughout her career.
