Twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye have captured headlines with a stunning academic feat at the University of Ibadan, graduating with first-class honours and matching CGPAs of 3.94 out of 4.00 in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The duo didn’t just excel in their department, they emerged as the top students in the Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 session, a rare double triumph announced on April 9, 2025.Their journey was a masterclass in consistency.

Matthias revealed on X that their grades soared from the start: 3.84 and 3.89 in their first year, climbing to a perfect 3.94 by their final year. Beyond the books, leadership defined them; Matthias as Speaker of the UI Students’ Representative Council’s 11th Assembly, and Matthew as President of the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI). Their peers in SEEEES-UI hailed them as the department’s finest, a nod to their brilliance and impact.

Matthew, reflecting on X on April 10, 2025, shared his awe at delivering the faculty’s induction speech. “It’s surreal,” he wrote, crediting their success to something beyond just hard work.

The twins’ humility shone through, even as a viral photo of their mother praying over them at graduation tugged at heartstrings online. Another clip of their induction—met with thunderous applause, cemented their moment of glory.

This isn’t UI’s first twin tale; law graduates Taiye and Kehinde Adegoke made waves in 2018. But Matthew and Matthias, with identical scores and faculty crowns, have set a new bar.

As their story spreads, from Punch Newspapers to social media, it’s a beacon of inspiration at Nigeria’s premier university—and a proud win for their family.
