A building under construction on Oriwu Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, collapsed around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, resulting in the recovery of two bodies from the rubble.

Emergency responders managed to rescue 14 individuals, who were immediately taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin stated that security personnel remain at the scene to ensure order as the rescue operation continues.

This latest tragedy adds to the recurring cases of building collapses in Lagos. In 2019, a similar incident on Lagos Island claimed 18 lives and left 41 people injured, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of construction regulations.
