Britain is planning to implement tighter visa regulations for Nigerians and Pakistani nationals, citing visa overstaying and an increase in the number of asylum claims.
The new hats, according to a UK Home Office statement, will put an end to the abuse of the immigration system by individuals entering the country through work or student visas and subsequent claims for asylum. The White Paper on Immigration, published later this month, will set out a clear framework to tackle such problems and instill order in the UK immigration policy.
Home Office official pointed out that the government is working actively to build intelligence on visa applicants to identify potential overstayers earlier and more efficiently. “We regularly review the visa system, and where we identify trends that could weaken our immigration rules, we will not be slow to act,” the official stated.
