The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has ordered a thorough investigation into an incident involving a 300-level History and International Studies student, Goddy Mbakwe Precious, and a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye.

A viral video circulating on social media captures the moment Precious, who was reportedly filming a TikTok video, reacted to Dr. Okoye after he lightly tapped her to ask her to give way. She turned to face him and remarked, “Can you imagine?” before later confronting and allegedly assaulting him, as seen in a follow-up clip where bystanders attempted to restrain her.

Dr. Okoye’s sister, who recounted his version of events, stated that the lecturer had returned to verify whether Precious was his student after overhearing her remarks. Upon realizing she was recording a video, he reportedly asked her to delete it to avoid being seen online. This request allegedly led to verbal abuse from the student, escalating the situation.

In response to the incident, UNIZIK’s Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis O, issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that the university is taking the matter seriously. He assured that a full, transparent, and impartial investigation has been ordered by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu.

The university emphasized its commitment to discipline, fairness, and ethical standards, urging the public to remain calm while the investigation unfolds. Appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
