Dr. Chukwu De Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has finally addressed the widely reported altercation involving him and a female student.

In a statement, Dr. Okoye provided his version of events, explaining that the incident occurred as he was leaving a classroom and heading to his office. He encountered the student recording a TikTok video in the corridor and politely asked to pass, tapping her while saying, “Excuse me.” However, he alleged that the student responded with a derogatory remark, prompting him to return and confirm whether she was his student.

Dr. Okoye stated that he requested the student to delete the TikTok video, as he did not want his face recorded. When she refused, he confiscated her phone. The situation escalated, and according to him, the student became aggressive, leading to the alleged assault.

Concluding his statement, Dr. Okoye said he is leaving the matter in the hands of the university’s committee for investigation and resolution. He thanked everyone for their attention and wished them God’s blessings.
