Against the backdrop of current emergency problems plaguing Nigeria, former presidential aspirant Peter Obi has called for emergency and resolute action to address the economic and security situation of the nation. Obi emphasized the reality that Nigeria is at the crossroads and requires resolute leadership and reengineering to reverse the current direction.
Discussing recent developments, Obi mentioned the worsening poverty levels and increasing insecurity, stressing that these must be addressed urgently. He cited reports that Nigeria remains the poverty capital of the world, with rural poverty increasing to l75%, according to the most recent World Bank review. He also made remarks regarding the state of education, citing the low 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results as evidence of decades of poor investment in the education sector.
Obi urged the government to invest in education, health, and economic reform, calling these the pillars of national development. He repeated that education is not only a social service but also a strategic investment which could lift millions out of poverty. He also urged enhanced security measures following the most recent terrorist attacks that left communities shattered.
