Award-winning actor Wale Ojo has expressed his desire for Nigerians to lose interest in traveling abroad, popularly known as ‘japa’.

In an interview with ThisDay, Ojo shared his aspirations for Nigeria, emphasizing his unwavering love for the country despite having spent many years overseas.

He stated, “I have always loved Nigeria and will continue to do so, no matter what. I have many aspirations for the country, and I want to be part of the solution to its problems.”

Ojo criticized the ‘japa’ mentality, calling it “embarrassing” and “unfortunate”. He noted that Nigerians are often applauded for their ingenuity abroad, but many professionals, including doctors, seek opportunities elsewhere.

He emphasized his vision for a Nigeria where people don’t feel the need to leave, saying, “I want to be part of the solution, not just talking about the problems.

If the government wants to engage with the creative industry, they should come and talk to people like us, who have a vision for the country and aren’t just following the crowd.”

Ojo’s passion for Nigeria and his desire to contribute to its growth and development are evident in his words. He encourages others to share his vision and work together to build a better Nigeria.
