The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has addressed speculations about his potential defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he is not afraid of joining the party.
Wike made this remark while explaining his decision not to support the 2023 presidential candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar. He cited a lack of equity and fairness within the PDP as the primary reason for his stance.
He clarified that he had no prior discussions with President Bola Tinubu regarding joining the APC before the elections.
âAt my level, I publicly declared that I would not support Atikuâs presidency because of the absence of justice, equity, and fairness within the PDP,â Wike said.
He emphasized his straightforwardness, stating, âI donât play double games. What I say I will do, I will do. What I wonât do, I wonât do. I openly declared my position and have no regrets about it.â
Wike further dispelled any notion of fear about joining the APC, asserting, âI never spoke with the President or anyone about joining APC. But let no one think Iâm afraid of joining the APC if I decide to. Who in PDP would intimidate me? No one.â
