Senegal’s Long-Serving Coach Aliou Cisse Departs After 9.5 Years

Aliou Cisse has stepped down as Senegal’s head coach, ending a nearly decade-long tenure with the Teranga Lions.

Cisse, 48, led Senegal to historic success, securing their first Africa Cup of Nations title in February 2022.

Although his contract expired in August, Cisse remained in charge for Senegal’s recent 2025 Afcon qualifiers, earning a draw against Burkina Faso and a victory over Burundi.

Despite the football federation’s (FSF) desire to renew his contract, the sports ministry, under the new government, opted to conclude Cisse’s tenure just nine days before the next round of qualifiers.

Cisse’s departure marks the end of an era for Senegal, sparking speculation about his successor and the team’s future direction.
