Adrienne Munju, a 41-year-old Canadian woman, was apprehended by Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Munju arrived on a KLM airline flight from Canada on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

During the inward clearance of passengers, NDLEA officials conducted a joint examination of Munju’s three bags, discovering 74 parcels of synthetic cannabis, known as ‘Canadian Loud,’ weighing 35.20 kilograms. The illicit substance was concealed in two of her bags.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Munju claimed she was recruited through an online platform to traffic the consignment. She allegedly accepted the offer of $10,000 to deliver the shipment to Lagos, stating she needed the funds to finance her ongoing master’s degree program in Canada.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of NDLEA to combat international drug trafficking and intercept illicit substances at Nigerian airports.
