Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has stressed the importance of prioritizing mental health in the workplace.

Marking Mental Health Awareness Day, she emphasized the need for a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable discussing their struggles.

“This year’s theme, ‘It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,’ couldn’t be more timely,” Tinubu said. “With rising job dissatisfaction and stress, it’s crucial we address mental wellbeing.”

Tinubu highlighted the risks of bottled-up emotions and the benefits of open conversations. “If we eliminate stigma, people will speak freely about their challenges, leading to early diagnosis and improved recovery outcomes.”

She urged Nigerians to:

1. Reduce stigma around mental health

2. Encourage open discussions

3. Provide love and support

4. Seek medical help and counseling early

“Let’s commit to improving mental health awareness and care for one another,” Tinubu said. “By being our brother’s keeper, we can create a safer, more compassionate society.”
