The Rivers State Government has approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants, effective immediately.

This development was announced by George Nwaeke, Head of Service, after a meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and labour leaders.

According to Nwaeke, the governor granted the approval during the closed-door meeting.

Chukwu Emecheta, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, praised Governor Fubara for meeting the expectations of Rivers State workers.

Alex Agwanwor, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, noted that the increased minimum wage will alleviate economic hardships faced by workers.

“The implementation of the new minimum wage will greatly improve the standard of living for workers in the state,” Agwanwor said.
