President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Susan Summerall Wiles, his campaign manager, will take on the role of White House chief of staff when he assumes office next year.

In his statement, Trump praised Wiles, saying she “just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history” and described her as “tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected.” He continued, “It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female chief of staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

At 67, Wiles becomes the first woman appointed to this pivotal position. Currently, the Trump transition team is working to appoint leaders for key executive departments, including the secretaries of state and defense, ahead of the January 20 inauguration.

During his victory speech this week, Trump referred to Wiles as “the ice maiden,” a nod to her composed yet formidable presence in political strategy. While she often works “in the background,” she is widely regarded as one of the most formidable operatives in American politics.

“Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again,” Trump added in his statement, referencing his iconic campaign slogan.
