Governor-elect Okpebholo Claims Edo Governor Obaseki Fled Nigeria Through Land Borders Ahead of Tenure’s End

Governor-elect: Senator Monday Okpebholo has claimed that outgoing Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has fled Nigeria via land borders.

With Okpebholo set to be sworn in on Tuesday, Obaseki will lose his immunity. Last week, Obaseki expressed concerns about a potential arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after his tenure ends.

Edo residents are worried about Obaseki’s alleged reckless statements. Okpebholo’s media aide, Godspower Inegbe, stated that Obaseki reportedly left Benin City on Friday in a disguised bus.

Okpebholo accused Obaseki of clearing out the Government House before his departure. He emphasized that Obaseki has been out of sight for over 72 hours prior to his official exit. The statement questioned why Obaseki did not use the airport if he was as popular as claimed, instead opting for a disguised road escape.

As of November 8, Obaseki’s whereabouts remain unknown. Allegations suggest he has abandoned governance and is evading potential legal issues.
