President Tinubu Hosts China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi To Strengthen Bilateral Ties

President Bola Tinubu welcomed Wang Yi, China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and a senior member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

Wang Yi’s visit is part of a two-day working tour of Nigeria, aimed at strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, discussions centered on reviewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in China, with particular focus on collaboration in the economy, politics, and the oil and gas sectors.

Following the talks, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Wang Yi are set to address the press in a joint briefing.

Dignitaries in attendance included Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Information, Idris Mohammed; and Ambassador Tuggar.

Ambassador Tuggar emphasized the enduring diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and China, built on mutual respect, and noted that Wang Yi’s visit was aimed at reinforcing this partnership. He also shared on his X handle that discussions with his Chinese counterpart focused on trade, capacity building, and people-to-people exchanges.
