The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have secured their place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 U-20 AFCON (Africa U-20 Cup of Nations) after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Kenya in their final Group B match on Wednesday in Cairo.
The exciting U-20 AFCON encounter saw Nigeria battle back twice, with Kparobo Arierhi equalizing in the 13th minute after an early penalty by Kenya’s Wanganya K. in the 6th minute. Kenya regained the lead through William Gitmu in the 68th minute, but Captain Daniel Bameyi kept Nigeria’s hopes alive with a well-taken penalty in the 73rd minute to seal the draw.
The hard-fought point, combined with Morocco’s 3-1 victory over Tunisia in the other Group B match, ensured that Nigeria finished second in the group with five points, advancing to the U-20 AFCON knockout stage.
The Flying Eagles remain unbeaten in the U-20 AFCON group stage, underlining their determination to contend for the prestigious U-20 AFCON title and book a ticket to the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup.
